Bringing home a Belgian Malinois for the first time is exciting and a bit overwhelming. I remember asking myself what do I need for a Belgian Malinois to ensure my high-energy pup would be happy and well cared for. From grooming tools to training gear, I compiled a checklist of essential Belgian Malinois accessories that made our lives so much easier.

If you’re a new owner wondering about the things you need for a Belgian Malinois, this list for you.

What Are Must-Have Accessories For Belgian Malinois?

1. FurErase Two-Sided Grooming Brush

One of the first accessories for Belgian Malinois I purchased was the FurErase Two-Sided Grooming Brush. Belgian Malinois have a double coat and shed year-round, with heavier shedding in spring and fall.

I quickly learned that regular brushing is key to managing that shedding and keeping my dog’s coat healthy. The FurErase brush is fantastic because it’s double-sided: one side has a safe blade that cuts through mats or tangles, and the other side works as a de-shedding tool to rake out loose undercoat.

I use the knot-cutting side for any stubborn tangles and then the shedding side to collect all the loose fur. This deshedding brush significantly reduced the amount of hair ending up on my furniture and clothes. It’s built with durable materials too, so it withstands our frequent grooming sessions without breaking. Regular brushing with a good tool like this keeps my Mal looking shiny and feeling comfortable – plus, it’s a great bonding time for us.

2. “Bite Me” Dog Bite Sleeve

I soon discovered that Belgian Malinois training equipment often goes beyond basic obedience – these dogs love to work and have strong jaws. To channel my dog’s natural drive and protect my arms during play, I got the “Bite Me” Dog Bite Sleeve

This bite sleeve is made of thick, durable jute material designed for protection training and heavy tugging. As a newbie owner, I’m not training a police dog, but even casual play with a Malinois can get intense! The sleeve lets my pup latch on and wrestle without me ending up bruised. It has a solid handle inside, so I can hold on while my Mal tug-o-wars with me, and it doesn’t strain my arm.

We use it for fun bite games and basic bite control exercises – it’s become our go-to toy for burning off energy. Not only does the bite sleeve keep my dog engaged and happy, but it also promotes interactive play in a safe way. If you plan on any protection work or just have a mouthy, playful Mal, a bite sleeve is a must-have accessory in your arsenal of Belgian Malinois gear.

3. “Ruff Weather” Belgian Malinois Jacket

Living in a region with cold winters and rainy seasons, I realized my Malinois could use some extra protection from the elements. Enter the “Ruff Weather” Belgian Malinois Jacket. This dog jacket is waterproof and windproof, which means my pup stays dry and warm during our chilly outdoor adventures.

I was initially unsure if a hardy Malinois really needs a coat, but I noticed on freezing mornings he would shiver just like any other dog. The Ruff Weather jacket has a winter cotton lining for warmth and a snug fit with adjustable straps, so it doesn’t slide around even when he’s running full throttle.

One feature I love is the reflective strips on it – during early morning or late evening walks, the jacket’s reflective design makes him visible to traffic and other people, adding a layer of safety.

Style-wise, it looks pretty “tactical” and cool on him (gotta admit, I enjoy how sharp he looks in it). More importantly, it gives me peace of mind that he’s comfortable no matter the weather. If you live somewhere with harsh weather, this jacket is definitely one of the things you need for a Belgian Malinois to keep them cozy and healthy outdoors.

4. 3-in-1 Portable Multifunction Dog Bottle

Belgian Malinois are an active breed – we’re always on the move, whether it’s long walks, hikes, or training sessions. One accessory I never leave home without now is my 3-in-1 Portable Multifunction Dog Bottle. Staying hydrated is crucial for an energetic dog, and this gadget makes it super convenient.

It’s basically a water bottle that comes with a built-in drinking trough (so my dog can lap up water easily), plus it has a small attached compartment where I can store kibble or treats. There’s even a slot to hold waste bags at the bottom, covering all bases in one device. I got the 500ml size with a food box, which holds plenty of water and a few snacks for our outings.

The design is portable, leak-proof, and BPA-free, meaning it’s safe and durable for regular use. I can toss it in my backpack or clip it on, and it doesn’t leak all over.

During training breaks or hikes, I just flip out the trough and press a button to release water for my Mal to drink, then lock it without wasting a drop. This 3-in-1 bottle essentially replaced carrying separate water bottles, bowls, and treat bags – truly an all-in-one solution. For any Malinois owner who’s out and about, this accessory is a game changer in your Malinois accessories collection.

5. Electric Pet Nail Grinder

If you’ve ever clipped a dog’s nails and accidentally cut too deep, you know how stressful nail trimming can be. I decided to skip the traditional clippers and use an Electric Pet Nail Grinder for my Malinois. This has been a wise move – the grinder makes nail care safer and calmer for both of us. It’s a small rotary grinder that gently files the nails down instead of cutting them bluntly.

The model I got is USB rechargeable. It also holds a charge for a long time, so I don’t have to worry about batteries. One of the best features of these accessories for Belgian Malinois is its low noise and low vibration. This feature is important because Malinois can be sensitive to loud, strange noises.

The quiet motor means my dog isn’t freaked out by a loud buzzing, and he tolerates nail grinding much better than clipping. With the grinder, I can trim a little at a time and avoid hitting the quick which is a huge relief! It comes with different grinding heads or grit levels, and a safety guard for smaller dogs.

Trimming nails every few weeks is necessary for an active Mal to prevent overgrowth and cracking. Thereofore, having this electric grinder has made a once-dreaded chore quick and easy. Any list of Belgian Malinois gear should include a quality nail trimmer or grinder – your furniture and floors (and your dog’s paws) will thank you.

6. MaliMuzzle – Belgian Malinois Muzzle

At first, I wasn’t sure I’d need a muzzle for my dog. He’s friendly, but Belgian Malinois are strong, and certain situations call for extra safety. I ended up getting the MaliMuzzle Belgian Malinois Muzzle, and I’m glad I have it in our kit.

This is a high-quality metal basket muzzle specifically designed for Malinois snouts. Unlike flimsy mesh muzzles, the metal basket allows my dog to pant and breathe freely, which is crucial since dogs cool off by panting.

The muzzle has adjustable straps that I could fit perfectly to his head, so it stays secure and he can’t paw it off easily. I use the muzzle in scenarios like vet visits, crowded public places, or when we’re training around unfamiliar dogs. It’s useful any time I want an extra layer of assurance that he (and others) stay safe. It prevents any nipping or chewing on things he shouldn’t

The metal construction is tough enough to handle a powerful Malinois trying to test it, and so far it’s held up great. An added bonus with this acccessories for Belgian Malinois is it kind of looks “cool” and tactical, matching his working-dog aesthetic. Muzzles can be a sensitive topic, but when used responsibly they’re a smart accessory.

The MaliMuzzle gives me peace of mind without making my dog uncomfortable – truly the perfect balance. I’d recommend any Mal owner to have a reliable muzzle on hand as part of their Belgian Malinois training equipment, even if it’s just for emergency situations or compliance with local laws.

7. VacuGroom – Grooming Vacuum Kit

Shedding is real with this breed! Even with daily brushing, I was still finding tumbleweeds of fur around the house during heavy shed seasons. That’s when I invested in the VacuGroom, a pet grooming vacuum kit that has been a total lifesaver. The VacuGroom basically combines grooming tools with a vacuum suction. It allows me to brush and suck up loose hair simultaneously

It came with multiple attachments. A de-shedding brush, a regular grooming brush, an electric clipper for trimming, and even a little nozzle and brush for cleaning hair off the couch or carpet.

Now, when I groom my Malinois, 99% of the shed hair gets immediately sucked into the vacuum canister instead of flying everywhere. This has drastically cut down my cleanup time; no more fur-coated furniture after brushing sessions! The kit also includes different guard combs for the clipper, so I can trim or thin out fur (like the longer hair on his hindquarters) without mess.

I was worried the vacuum noise might scare my dog. However, it’s designed to be pretty low-noise and gentle. With some treats and praise, he got used to it quickly.

8. K9 Commando Tactical Vest

Belgian Malinois are often seen as canine warriors, so I couldn’t resist getting some tactical gear for my boy. The K9 Commando Tactical Vest I purchased serves as a heavy-duty harness and makes him look like the hero he is. This vest is surprisingly lightweight for its size.

It has padded straps that keep him comfortable even when he wears it for hours, and a bunch of adjustable points so I could get a snug, secure fit. What sets the K9 Commando vest apart are the MOLLE strips on the sides (MOLLE is the system of webbing loops you see on military gear).

I’ve attached a couple of small pouches – one holds his collapsible water bowl and the other some treats or poop bags. It basically lets him carry his own gear, which is both practical and mentally stimulating for a working breed. There’s also a sturdy top handle on the vest that I’ve found useful for quickly grabbing and controlling him in tricky situations or helping him over obstacles.

We use this vest on hikes, long training days, or when I just want him to get a bit of a workout carrying some weight. The freedom of movement in this vest is great. It won’t restrict his legs or chest when he runs, jumps, and plays.

9. Tacticool Harness

For everyday walks and training sessions, I wanted a harness that offers both utility and comfort without being overly bulky. The aptly named Tacticool Harness turned out to be a perfect choice. This harness is a more streamlined tactical-style harness. It’s not as large as the full vest, but still incredibly durable.

The construction is sturdy with reinforced stitching, yet the materials are breathable and lightweight, so my dog stays cool and agile wearing it. I use the Tacticool Harness for our daily walks, quick training drills, and trips to the dog park.

It has both front and back leash attachment points, which is great: I clip the leash to the front D-ring when I’m working on no-pulling training, and to the back when we’re just jogging along. There’s also a handle on top (I’ve learned a handle on a Malinois harness is a lifesaver for those moments you need instant control). The Tacticool Harness combines the best of both worlds: it’s functional for training and comfortable for regular walks. If you want one harness that can do it all, this one should be high on your list of Belgian Malinois accessories.

10. K9 Military Classic Collar

Last but certainly not least, every dog needs a solid collar. I opted for the K9 Military Classic Collar as my Malinois’s everyday collar. This thing is as tough as it sounds. It features thick, durable nylon webbing and has heavy-duty metal buckles. Actually, there are two buckles for extra security, so it’s not going to pop off or break if he suddenly lunges.

One of my favorite features is the built-in handle on the collar. It lies flat along the collar normally. However, when I need quick control (like if another dog surprises us on a walk or he gets too excited seeing a squirrel), I can grab that handle and hold him close. It’s amazing how much control that little handle provides in a pinch.

This collar also has a reflective strip stitched in, which is fantastic for visibility during our night walks.Despite being heavy-duty, it’s fully adjustable and actually pretty comfortable. The interior is padded so it doesn’t rub his neck.
